Forget It Friday: Perfect Redefined

I am so excited to be linking up with one of my favorite bloggy mamas! In the time that we have been bloggy friends she and I have linked up with several other bloggers but I am so proud of her for hosting her very own link up! Way to go Mom Fitting It All In!

So “Forget It Friday” gives us a chance to say FORGET IT to all that we’re holding onto so that we can move on and into our weekend.

This Friday I want to say FORGET IT to all the mom’s who are trying define – or be defined – as perfect... myself included.

Perfect. It sounds so easy. From the outside it looks so easy. From the outside her life is so *perfect*. Her perfect marriage. Her perfect children. Her perfect relationship with her in-laws. Her hair is perfectly styled. Her makeup is perfectly flawless. She is perfectly dressed.

Why can’t I be more like her? Why can’t my husband and I be like them? Why can’t my children be like hers? Why can’t my hair be like that? Why doesn’t my makeup look like hers?

What a *trap* women fall into time and time again. I think this is common for women and mommy’s in particular because they have so much to juggle. And in the midst of juggling their life, they see a small *snippet* of someone else’s life and they want it. They want *perfect*.
Perfect. The word perfect is completely subjective. Much like the words beautiful, fabulous, and even ugly. Perfect is not out there for you to find. Perfect is not out there for you to take. Perfect is not out there waiting on you somewhere.

Perfect is right here. Perfect is leaving the dishes in the sink to have extra playtime with your children before bed. Perfect is cleaning the muddy paw prints on the floor in exchange for a ball toss with your puppy in the yard. Perfect is leaving the bed unmade to have coffee in the kitchen with your husband before he rushes off to work. Perfect is pulling your hair back instead of styling it because you spent extra time on the phone with a friend this morning.

It’s Perfect. Redefined.

Perfect is what you make it. Someone else can’t define that for you. And you can’t define that for them.

This post is inspired by a mom’s group I recently participated in. In the midst of a room full of mom’s all different shapes, sizes, walks of life, ages, circumstances, I found them all getting *real*. I found each one of them trading “my life is perfect” for “my life is real”. And it felt good. It felt good to connect with women and have real conversations and have a safe place to land. Hearing them say, my child has down's syndrome. I was abused. My marriage went through a low... Hearing them talk about real life.

My life may not be perfect. But it’s mine. And it’s perfect for *me*.

My choices may not be perfect. But they are mine to make. And I will make the best decisions I can using the information I have at the time.

And somewhere in the middle I will redefine perfect. And I will make it mine.

Happy Friday all!
